Crystal Community Boosters
Roadside 66, a convenience store, grocery store, gas station, and place to get a hot meal for the town of Crystal (pop. 111), was the socialization hub for the small town with over 10,000 visits to the store in 2023. The store closed in December of that year and the pain of that loss was felt throughout the community. They came together to figure out a way to get the c-store reopened. The residents of Crystal managed to raise over $100,000 but were still short of the remaining funds needed to purchase the store. The Crystal Community Booster Club applied to the Rural Food Sustainability Grant, Component Two, with the assistance of the Pembina County JDA. Thanks to the grant, the nonprofit was able to reopen and a for-profit operator began running the store, now called The Chuck Stop, in early May to the thrill of the community!
