Vision and Mission
The Community Development and Rural Prosperity (CDRP) office is dedicated to empowering North Dakota’s communities.
Operating under the Division of Community Services within Commerce, the CDRP office is guided by the Main Street Initiative pillars and focuses on fostering economic growth, innovation, and an enhanced quality of life in North Dakota’s communities, big and small.
The CDRP team supports communities through in-person visits, webinars, and collaborative forums with state, federal, and nonprofit partners. These efforts ensure a whole-of-government approach to addressing challenges like workforce shortages, childcare, and placemaking. The office also provides resources, leadership training, and funding to help communities achieve measurable goals, including increased GDP, school enrollment, and community vibrancy.
Community of the Future
The Office of Community Development and Rural Prosperity is developing the Community of the Future framework—a replicable, tailored five-year plan to help North Dakota communities address unique challenges, leverage resources, and build resilience. This proactive initiative, built to include regional councils, state, federal and nonprofit partners, underscores the CDRP’s commitment to helping communities thrive.
