Home Program Awards Funding for Grand Forks Housing Project
Post Date: Aug 28 2018

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Federal Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) Program, a federally funded program within the North Dakota Department of Commerce, recently invested $335,000 for a multi-family housing project in Grand Forks. LaGrave on First is a 42-unit apartment complex pairing affordable housing with permanent supportive housing.
“This project is a partnership among a number of government entities and the private sector to make affordable housing available to low-income people of North Dakota,” North Dakota HOME Program Administrator Genevieve Giese said. ”The HOME program focuses on homeowner rehabilitation, rental assistance and rental housing production/rehabilitation.”
The HOME Program provides formula grants to states and localities that communities use – often in partnership with local nonprofit groups – to fund a wide range of activities, including building, buying and/or rehabilitating affordable housing for rent or homeownership. It also provides direct rental assistance to low-income people. HOME is the largest federal block grant to state and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households.
Other partners involved in the LaGrave project is the Federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Housing Trust Fund, Otto Bremer Foundation, Turtle Mountain Housing Authority and the Federal Home Loan Bank’s Affordable Housing Program. Grand Forks Homes, Inc. is the owner of project and Grand Forks Housing Authority and Beyond Shelter, Inc. are the co-developers.
The HOME Program accepts applications annually to develop/rehabilitate multi-family housing in North Dakota. The 2018 application deadline is September 30.
