APUC Committed Awards Funding Totaling $294,291

The North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) awarded funding requests for five projects totaling $294,291 at its quarterly meeting November 16 in Stanley.

APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Commerce that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products. The grants can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance.

The following requests were awarded funding:

Northern Ag Development Corporation (Arthur) was awarded $31,500 to develop a laboratory test kit that can provide early detection of bacteria in the fermentation tanks of ethanol plants. Northern Ag will work with test kit companies to license this technology and make it available to end users. Contact Kevin Skunes at (701) 967-8507.

Myriad Mobile (Fargo) was awarded $50,000 to embark on a commercialization project that will bring Bushel, the grain industry's first automated mobile app platform for elevators and cooperatives to connect with their growers and deliver real-time actionable information. Anchor Ingredients Co., LLC (Fargo) was awarded $75,000 to expand operations by adding a pea protein facility in Buffalo, ND. Anchor's new pea fractionation plant will produce dry milled pea protein and pea starch. The pea protein will be supplied to both the food and pet food markets. Contact Seth Novak at (701) 499-1480.

North American Coal Company and Great River Energy (Underwood) was awarded $75,000 to determine feasibility of co-locating a commercial greenhouse near an existing power plant. Contact Anne Hansen at (701) 442-7095.

VanBedaf Dairy LLP (Carrington) was awarded $62,791 to explore a pilot program for production and marketing of on-farm gelato production. Contact Wilhelmina van Bedaf (Maartje) at (701) 650-0153.
